Götheborg sails to Singapore!
On the 12 September 1745, the Swedish Ship Götheborg headed back home after almost two years of sailing around the
world. But the vessel ran aground in the middle of the entrance to Göteborg harbour and sank, together with all the cargo.
Thanks to all nearby boats, all the crew members survived. Many attempts were made to salvage the valuable cargo, with
varying success. As the days go by, everyone forgot about the vessel, until 240 years later, when a diver rediscovered her
and began a marine-archaeological excavation. The attention surrounding the find and the excavation got people so
interested, that it led to the idea of rebuilding the entire vessel - in full scale using traditional techniques, and sailing to China
once again. Thus, the adventure lives on, and it has been travelling around the world since last year, bringing a part of
Sweden to the rest of the world, and reaching out to as many as it can - in many ways like the IKEA stores around the world.
The special IKEA friends Pirate Event on 6 January was great, with many friends members dressed as pirates at the event.
The top 3 best-dressed pirates will be announced on 19 January 2007 on this webpage. Please check back for the list of winners!
Meanwhile, feel free to view the photographs taken at the event below.
