Home Furnishing Tips

Decorate with textiles One of the best

One of the best ways to refresh and renew a home is to give it a personal touch and showcase your personality. You are where you live. Staying in doesn’t mean playing it safe. Throw yourself into this season’s new colours. Big, bold colours such as reds and oranges are easy to use when balanced with whites and neutrals. Here are a few tips on how to decorate with textiles.

Better acoustics
Music or conversation in a room without textiles produces a brittle sound or echo. The softness of textiles - such as carpets and cushions, for example - absorb harsh tones and soften the sound.

Textiles as art
Stretch your favourite fabric over a frame and hang up it up as an artpiece. Or use scraps of cloth to create collage.

Textiles as room dividers
Hanging a textile curtain instead of building a wall is a simple way to change the proportions or shape of a room. A curtain hung on a rail or rod acts as a room divider or ‘soft wall’ that can separate living areas in a home to create privacy.

Textiles and comfort
Besides affecting temperature, textiles in the form of cushions support your back on sofas or chairs, while rugs and pillows make the floor more comfortable to walk or lie on.

Textiles introduce colours and patterns
Textiles in the form of cushions, throws, window treatments and rugs can introduce colour into an otherwise bland interior. When you mix textiles for visual effect, tie the look together with one common element, such as complementary shades or colours from the same palette or even similar prints.

Changing decor instantly with textiles
The easiest and fastest way to change the décor of your home is with textiles that have a wide range of colours, patterns, materials, textures and finishes. Break the monotony with a new style, colour, seasonal effect and texture.

“Forest, city, under water and somewhat graphic. These are the images I worked with when I create ANNAMOA fabric. For inspiration, I looked at fairy tales and proverbs about animals. I also thought about things and places I like, such as Lappland in northern Sweden and the Skanstull neighbourhood of Stockholm. Each pattern is bold and has its own story to tell. I can see the fabrics stretched on frames, like paintings. Hope you like them!”
